For pretty much as long as the drink has existed, your choices for wine have been “red” or “white.” Ok, maybe we can consider ros its own color, too, even though it looks like a mix. Well, now there’s a new color in the mix, and it doesn’t look like a thing like the others. Blue wine is here, and it’s hitting stores shortly.

It comes from a company called Gik from Spain. They “invented” it.
3
But they had help, teaming up with the University of the Basque Country and a team of food researchers.
4
It gets its color from a blend of white and red grapes. No blue grapes!
5
Rather, the blue comes from something else…
6
…a chemical called anthocyanin, which is a pigment found in grape skins (more often red than white).
7
So it’s natural, which should put a lot of people at ease. But it certainly won’t help amateurs with their dinner pairing conundrums!
8
It’s first hitting shelves in Europe shortly for only about $14 per bottle, so keep an eye out!
