Until Wednesday. Until Pablo Sandoval.

Sandoval — who sports one of sports‘ better nicknames in “Kung Fu Panda” — went yard in the first, third and fifth innings to power the San Francisco Giants to a Game 1 home win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night at AT&T Park. Each dinger sent the Twitter world into a frenzy and the #KungFuPanda hashtag was spotted as a worldwide trend. According to Major League Baseball, more than 163,000 social comments included the words “Pablo,” “Sandoval” or “Panda” — 20 percent of the overall digital conversation surrounding the game.
