Obama to NASA: Let Me Know If You Find Aliens

When President Obama called NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover team Monday morning, he had a small request: “If in fact you make contact with Martians, please let me know right away.”

Obama joked about finding life on Mars during a conference call with the NASA team. “Even if they’re just microbes, it’ll be pretty exciting,” he later added.

The president also said he was particularly captivated by NASA Mohawk Guy, a.k.a. Bobak Ferdowski, flight director of the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity mission.

“I, in the past, thought about getting a Mohawk myself,” said Obama. “But my team keeps on discouraging me. And now that he’s received marriage proposals and thousands of new Twitter followers, I think I’m going to go back to my team and see if it makes sense.”

Jokes aside, President Obama also congratulated the team on Curiosity‘s successful and unique landing process, which involved the never-before-used Skycrane system.

“It’s really what makes us best as a species – the curiosity we have, yearning to discover, the pushing boundaries of knowledge,” Obama said.
