Guy Builds Alarm That Goes Off Whenever Someone Tweets ‘Basic’ (Video)

In the past few months, “basic” has transformed from a word used to describe tired trends into a tired trend itself, essentially turning into a synonym for “a popular thing that I don’t like” for a whole new brand of hipster.

I’m not really sure what inspired filmmaker to construct an alarm that makes a Lego figure dance every time “#basic” appears on Twitter, but he did, and we no longer have to worry about living in a world where such an invention doesn’t exist.

I’m sure I could come up with a deeper meaning for this piece considering I was a graduate student pursuing a liberal arts degree, but I’m not, which means you’ll have to come up with your own explanation.

I’m off to tweet “#basic” infinity times to see if I can break the machine.
