Emma Watson Perfectly Explains That ‘Feminism’ Does Not Mean ‘Man-Hating’ (Video)
Actress Emma Watson is often celebrated for her dedication to education and public feminist views.
In celebration of the United Nations’ new gender equality initiative called He For She, Watson spoke in front of gathered representatives. The actress was recently named a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN.
In the succinct, impressively presented speech, Watson recalls being called “bossy” as a child and being sexualized by the media as a young girl.
Watson says that feminism is often equated with “man-hating,” not with female empowerment.
If you still hate the word [feminist], it’s not the word that’s important. It’s the idea and the ambition behind it.
He For She aims to redefine gender equality as it concerns both female and male roles in society. The organization calls itself a “solidarity movement.”
