21. Yo-Yo Ma: 17 awards

Yo-Yo Ma is an acclaimed American cellist. He has won seventeen Grammy awards in total over the past thirty or so years.

Here is Ma playing the prelude to Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1.

Ma won Best Instrumental Soloist Performance in 1985 for “Bach: The Unaccompanied Cello Suites.”

Here is Jay-Z’s “99 Problems,” which won Best Rap Solo Performance in 2005.

19. Eric Clapton: 17 awards

Eric Clapton is an English singer, musician, and songwriter. He has won a total of seventeen Grammys since his debut in the 1960s.

Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” won Song of the Year in 1993.

The song was inspired by the death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell out of a window.

18. Ray Charles: 17 awards

Ray Charles is an American legend. He won his seventeen Grammys between 1947 and his death in 2004, and was portrayed by Jamie Foxx in Ray.

Charles’ rendition of “Hit the Road Jack” won Best Rhythm and Blues Performance in 1962.

17. Beyoncé: 17 awards

Queen Bey has won her seventeen awards within the last twelve years. She is nominated for one award (alongside husband Jay-Z) in 2014.

The 2013 award for Best Traditional R&B Performance went to “Love on Top.”

16. Jimmy Sturr: 18 awards

Jimmy Sturr is a polka musician. He has won eighteen awards across his career.

Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul. Between 1968 and now, she has won eighteen Grammys- and she has won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance so many times (8 in a row!) that it is jokingly called the Aretha Award!

Aretha’s “Respect” won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1968.

14. Bruce Springsteen: 20 awards

The Boss has won his twenty awards across the past forty-five years!

“Streets of Philadelphia” won Best Rock Song in 1995.

13. Pat Metheny: 20 awards

Pat Metheny is an American jazz guitarist and composer. He won his first Grammy in 1983, and now has a total of twenty.

“(Go) Get It” won Best Jazz Instrumental Solo in 2001.

12. Henry Mancini: 20 awards

Henry Mancini was an American conductor, composer, and arranger. He won twenty awards throughout his life, but was nominated for seventy-two.

Mancini wrote the music for “Moon River,” which won Song of the Year in 1962.

This is, of course, the famous song from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

11. Vince Gill: 20 awards

Vince Gill is an American country artist, and won his first Grammy twenty-four years ago. He is nominated with Kelly Clarkson for one award in 2014.

“Pretty Little Adriana” took home Best Male Country Vocal Performance in 1997.

10. Chick Corea: 20 awards

Chick Corea is an American pianist (jazz and fusion) and composer. He has been nominated for fifty-nine Grammy awards and has won twenty.

Corea’s “Matrix” won Best Jazz Instrumental Solo in 2004.

He won “Best Instrumental Composition” for the main title from Star Wars in 1978.

8. Kanye West: 21 awards

Kanye West, in just eight years, has won twenty-one Grammy awards! He is nominated for two in 2014.

“Gold Digger” won Best Rap Solo Performance in 2006.

7. Stevie Wonder: 22 awards

The incomparable Stevie Wonder has won twenty-two Grammys in the past forty-one years. He is up for two more this year!

Wonder won Best R&B Song in 1973 for “Superstition.”

6. U2: 22 awards

Irish rock band U2 have won twenty-two Grammys since their formation in 1976.

“Beautiful Day” won Song of the Year in 2001.

5. Vladimir Horowitz: 25 awards

Vladimir Horowitz was a Russian-American pianist and composer. He won twenty-five Grammy awards, beginning in 1963.

This is the FULL recording of “Horowitz at Carnegie Hall: An Historic Return,” which won Best Classical Album in 1966.

4. Pierre Boulez: 26 awards

Pierre Boulez is a French pianist, composer, and conductor. He has won twenty-six Grammy awards.

This is a recording of Boulez’s composition “Dérive I” being performed by The Ensemble Intercontemporain and conducted by Boulez himself.

3. Quincy Jones: 27 awards

Quincy Jones, known for being a record producer, composer, arranger, and conductor, is also a jazz trumpetist who has won twenty-seven Grammys since 1951.

This is Jones’ “Summer in the City,” which won Best Instrumental Arrangement in 1974.

2. Alison Krauss: 27 awards

Alison Krauss is an American country and bluegrass singer/musician. She, as both a solo artist and as part of a group, has won twenty seven Grammy awards, the most for any female artist.

“Baby, Now That I’ve Found You” won Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1996. This is a live performance.

She is amazing.

1. Sir Georg Solti: 31 awards

Sir Georg Solti, a Hungarian conductor, holds the record for most Grammy awards won with thirty-one.

Here is Solti conducting the Chicago Symphonic Orchestra as they play Wagner’s “Tannhauser Overture.”
