Cardiologist shreds CDC instructions on Ebola protective gear

Dr. Jonathan Reiner is the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at The George Washington University Hospital and a professor of medicine at The George Washington University Medical Center. Here’s a link to the CDC poster he is referencing.

Follow these instructions from CDC website for removing gloves & you risk contamination. Not how to do it. pic.twitter.com/0pIwqhbMIf

This is how CDC advises how to safely remove gloves. It is wrong. pic.twitter.com/qCiRiub10a

Those instructions are linked on the CDC’s Ebola page. See for yourself. (Scroll down and look for the link titled “Sequence for Putting On and Removing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)[PDF – 3 pages].“)

Earlier this week, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly challenged CDC director Thomas Frieden on this very point. Transcript:

Megyn Kelly: I looked at the [CDC’s] website and it says you’re only supposed to one wear one pair of gloves, and it says you don’t have to cover your head — you know head gear, head cover —  and you don’t have to cover your feet. Now wouldn’t you admit that that’s insufficient?

Dr. Frieden: No. We know how Ebola spreads. It spreads by direct contact and you know sometimes more isn’t better. You put on more layers, you put on more things,  they’re harder to get on, they’re harder to get off. Yes really.

Kelly: You would go into an infected Ebola patient’s room without covering your head, with only wearing one pair of gloves and with your feet exposed, you would do that?

Frieden: Absolutely. More is not always better. Better is better. Sometimes you put on more layers, it’s harder to put on, harder to take off. You increase your risk of exposure…

Video here (starting at about 4:33):

But last night, Kelly showed a photo of Dr. Frieden when he visited Ebola patients in West Africa. Watch the video below to see what he was wearing:

Said it last night. Worth repeating: Megyn, Great job exposing Dr Frieden for the inept liar he is! @megynkelly #KellyFile

has anyone seen Frieden today or is he hiding behind the hazmat suit he won't let nurses with direct contact have?

Just wondering: Is hypocrisy part of the CDC protocol?
