Biblioburro — Library on a donkey’s back brings books to remote villages
Since the late 90′s, Colombian primary school teacher Luis Soriano has been packing up a little library onto the back of his donkey and taking it to villages where otherwise there would be no books at all. In the early days, he had fewer than a hundred volumes. Nowadays, he has nearly 5,000.
Watch the story of Soriano and his Biblioburro. It’s really good…

That burro better get petted by every kid along the way. Walking around for 8 hours a day with a library and a person on your back takes some fuerte.
I love this. It’s people like this that give truth to the statement that, “One person can change the world”. He’s awesome.
There’s a very cool picture book about the Biblioburro that I’ve seen used in lesson plans for Elementary & MIddle School. http://www.amazon.com/Biblioburro-A-True-Story-Colombia/dp/1416997784
