Who Is Rupert Sanders?

1. His Professional Background:

The 41-year-old director first met Kristen, who is currently 22, on the set of Snow White and The Huntsman. The $170 million dollar project was the first feature film for the director.

Prior to directing Snow White, Rupert directed commercials for Nike, Adidas, Xbox, Guinness and one for Halo 3: ODST. The Halo ad (seen above) won him two Golden Lions at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

According to Guardian, his big break came when he landed a meeting with producer Joe Roth (pictured left):

“I went to America with a very specific idea of what I wanted to do,” Sanders told the paper. “I read every screenplay that was being sent to the other directors. None were being sent to me, but I was reading what others were choosing and what the best writers were writing. So when it was my turn to start developing projects, I knew the writers I wanted to work with, and I had met every head of studio, every executive and a lot of producers. I started finding things, little crumbs off other people’s tables that I would make my own.”

Following his meeting with Joe, Rupert made a 3-minute trailer for a project that would eventually turn out to be Snow White.

The director has been married to Liberty Ross for seven years. The couple has two kids (Skyla and Tennyson). The two met through his best friend Milo:

“We were at a party one night, and this beautiful girl walked in the room,” Rupert told the Guardian. “I just knew I was going to marry her. It took a while. I didn’t propose to her for seven years because I felt that she was too young and she’d resent me if she hadn’t lived. But it was good because I was off making commercials and she was modelling, so we had quite a free – not sexually free, we weren’t swinging or having other relationships … I hope! – but we both lived very independent lives, then we’d meet up. It kept the fire burning. She’s been very supportive and she’s been a strong single mother for the last year-and-a-half, because I haven’t been around.”

Liberty Ross is sister of Atticus Ross – the Oscar-winning composer who worked with Trent Reznor of the score for The Social Network.

Liberty is also an actress, model and Vogue cover girl. She appeared in Snow White as young Stewart’s mother. According to People, she tweeted, “sometimes bad things fall apart so better things can fall together.” Liberty later deleted her account before the news of her husband’s affair broke.
