24. Great White Shark Bite

The great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is a powerful apex predator lamniform shark found in all major oceans. Mature individuals grow up to 21ft (6.4m) and can weight over 7,000 lbs. Though previously believed to have a life span of 30 years, we now know that great whites live far longer for an estimated 70 years making them one of the longest lived cartilaginous fish currently known. Not surprising, great whites are ranked first in having the most attacks on humans (with 272 documented unprovoked attacks), however humans are not their preferred prey and it’s believed that most of these attacks are due to mistaken identities.
