One day.

That is all it took for Erica Wilson, an extremely dedicated dancer, to have her world turned upside down.

In the span of 24 hours, Wilson went to school, went to PE and she played basketball — just like any other day. All of a sudden, a shooting pain in her right calf turned into a sudden visit to the hospital.

There, doctors performed an MRI and gave Wilson a shocking diagnosis: She had transverse myelitis and would never walk again.

Her athletic career seemed to be over then and there. That is, until the following fall, when she visited a local gym and reencountered the sport with which her dramatic story began, basketball.

Now, at 16 years old, Wilson has a career in wheelchair basketball that has seen her defy all odds.

Check out the video to watch Gatorade’s “Starting Again,” the amazing story of Erica Wilson.
