Community Post: The 2013 Top Trending Music Videos On YouTube In Different Countries

1. YouTube has released the 25 Top Trending Music Videos of 2013, which included “Gentleman” by PSY, “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus, and “Roar” by Katy Perry among others.

2. However, if we check out the list of most popular music videos by country, local music dominates YouTube’s trending charts. Lend an ear to what the rest of the world has been grooving in 2013.

3. Arab Region

YouTube consolidated all data from Middle East and North Africa. All songs in the Global Top 25 are nowhere in this year’s list of most trending music videos in the Arab region. Instead, the top honor goes to “Asaad Wahda” by Lebanese singer Elissa.

4. Argentina

“Gentleman” settled for number 2 in Argentina’s YouTube Trending list, while “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop” reached the fourth and eighth spots, respectively. The top spot goes to the reggaeton ditty “El Amante” by Daddy Yankee (featuring J Alvarez). I mean, how can PSY outview a video with THAT thumbnail?

5. Austria

Austrians got the groove on over “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (featuring Ray Dalton), which topped the country’s list. At close second is “Das Kleine Küken Piept” (The Little Chick Peeps), the German version of the popular Italian novelty song “Il Pulcino Pio”. (Also, animals sound amusing in German.)

6. Brazil

This sultry music video of “Show Das Poderosas” by Anitta dominated YouTube Brazil. “Gentleman” is at number 5, while Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” settles at eighth spot.

7. Canada

While the sixth top global trending music video “Blurred Lines” by American-Canadian Robin Thicke (featuring T.I. and Pharrell) is at number 4 in Canada, we shift the spotlight to Canada-born-and-raised Drake and his music video for “Started From The Bottom”, which is at ninth spot. (“Wrecking Ball” takes the top spot.)

8. Chile

“El Amante” also takes the top spot in Chile’s most trending music videos, followed by “Gentleman”. At number three is “Propuesta Indecente” by American Bachata artist Romeo Santos.

9. Colombia

Colombia grooved to “Mi Noche” by local urban artist Reykon (featuring Kannon), edging out “El Amante” and “Gentleman” at second and third place, respectively.

10. Czech Republic

“Gentleman” is 2013 most trending music video in this side of Europe, in a list peppered with American and British tracks. Czech urban artist Ben Cristovao manages to sneak in with “Bomby” at number 6.

Danish pop act 8Ball squeezes in between “Gentleman” and “Wrecking Ball” with its number two single “Gustav” (featuring Gustav, who makes you wanna say “Yasssss!”).

Finnish music figures prominently in its local YouTube Trending Music Videos List, with rapper Cheek taking top spot with “Timantit on ikuisia”. “Gentleman” is at number two.

13. France

“Gentleman” is not that popular in France, ending up at fifth spot. The French listened most to “Papaoutai” by rapper Stromae.

The Greeks are like “Gentleman” what? Miley Cyrus who? The top global music videos are absent in Greece’s local chart, with “Eleges” by boyband Melisses leading the pack.

15. Hong Kong

PSY remains popular in Hong Kong, with “Gentleman” grabbing the top spot in the local YouTube trending chart. Following his trail is Shiga Lin with “Once Said”.

16. Hungary

Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” (globally at number 17) takes the top spot. Also, Hungarians bobbed their heads to the country’s number 3: “Nekem ez jár” by Majka, Curtis, BLR (featuring Pápai Joci).

17. India

“We Can’t Stop” and Lady Gaga’s “Applause” (globally at number 25) are the only non-Indian songs in the local chart at second and sixth spots, respectively. The subcontinent’s most viral music video is of “Jeene Laga Hoon”, the theme song of Bollywood romantic comedy “Ramaiya Vastavaiya”.

18. Indonesia

P!nk’s “Just Give Me A Reason” and “Gentleman” are no match to Geisha and her single “Lumpuhkan Ingatanku”, which takes the title of Indonesia’s most trending music video of 2013.

19. Ireland

While Ireland’s list includes “Wake Me Up” at number 3, its Irish cover by Lurgan manages to creep into the tenth spot.

20. Israel

Eyal Golan must be REALLY popular in Israel, as four of his music videos are on the top four in the local trending charts. This one, “All The Dreams”, takes the top spot.

24. Mexico

“Gentleman” also dominates YouTube Mexico’s most trending list, but “Mi Razón De Ser” by Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga is the country’s anthem of 2013.

25. New Zealand

While “Blurred Lines”, “Wrecking Ball”, and “Gentleman” take the top three spots, New Zealand showed their love on native Kiwi Lorde. Her song “Royals” is number 8 on this country’s list of most trending music videos on YouTube.

26. Nigeria

Nigeria’s most trending list is all-local, with “Ada Ada” by Afrobeat artist Flavour taking the number one spot.

27. Norway

It is odd that YouTube does not include Ylvis’ “The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)” in Norway’s list of most trending music videos. (It is relegated on a separate list for viral videos.) At least another one of the brotherly duo’s comedic creation, “Stonehenge”, is on this list at number seven.

28. Philippines

“Gentleman” and Katy Perry’s “Roar” give this country’s list a one-two punch. At number three is the heavily reggae-influenced “Lord Patawad” by Basilyo.

33. South Africa

In contrast to other countries in Africa, only one domestic track makes it in South Africa’s most trending music videos list. “Xigubu” by DJ Ganyani (featuring FB) takes the ninth spot.

34. South Korea

PSY takes the top spot in South Korea’s top trending music videos for the second year in a row with “Gentleman”. Next on the list is “I Got A Boy” by Girls’ Generation, which recently won “Video of the Year” in the first YouTube Music Awards.

35. Spain

Spain has a well-kept secret to the rest of the world: a 15-year-old pop sensation named Abraham Mateo. His single “Señorita” is the hottest music video on YouTube España. “Gentleman” and “Wrecking Ball” could only reach fourth and fifth slots, respectively.

“Gentleman” got edged out of YouTube Taiwan’s top spot with Eurodance-influenced “Sister” by Jeannie Hsieh.
