Cirque du Soleil has always captured the magical abilities of athletic humans. But now, the circus is introducing computerized quadcopters into the game.

In a short film called “Sparked,” shot in just three days, a man finds that his lampshades have a little life to them. The film was made without computer-generated imagery or digital effects, simply beautifully choreographed drones controlled by computers.

Cirque du Soleil, ETH Zurich and Verity Studios created “Sparked” as a way to showcase the incredible ingenuity behind robotics’ designs.

They hope to collaborate on a performance in the future.

The team has also released an in-depth video explaining the creative process behind “Sparked.”
