This gentleman’s native language doesn’t have the same sounds or rules as English, making it hard for him to replicate English words. His friends know this…so of course they have some fun with him…

    My Grandfather was Irish and he always said, Hippo po tame us, for Hippotamus…it was not a joke, he always said it that way We and we are now in our sixties and still say it that way for fun…

    Hippotamus is not even a word, man. Your grandfather probably simply over-enunciated the word as it is correctly spelled:H-I-P-P-O-P-O–T-A-M-U-S
