The holiday spirit is contagious, so it’s no surprise tech companies, non-profits and other organizations have embraced giving back this winter.

While volunteering time and donating money have long been holiday staples, digital tools and online communities have opened up new doors for social good. We’ve rounded up the best uses of social media to help you help others this holiday season.

  • Stand Up To Cancer’s Ugly Sweater Campaign: Wearing an ugly holiday sweater can get you more than holiday chuckles this year. Stand Up To Cancer wants you to get your friends’ support for each day of December that you wear an ugly sweater. You can even throw an ugly sweater party for Stand Up To Cancer. All the money you raise will go straight to cancer prevention research.

  • Stylitics’ Dream Closet Giveaway: Virtual closet site Stylitics has partnered with the Council of Fashion Designers of America to donate an 85-piece designer wardrobe to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. More than 40 designers have donated pieces to the collection.

  • Northwestern Mutual’s Share Unstoppable Happiness: Each time you share this holiday card — designed by 8-year-old Addison, who suffers from cancer — a $1 donation will be made by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation to fight childhood cancer, up to $25,000.

  • Disney’s Club Penguin’s Coins for Change: This holiday campaign lets kids donate virtual coins they’ve earned playing games on Club Penguin to real-world causes they care about and choose themselves. The campaign will donate up to $1 million, and Club Penguin users will decide how the donations are spent.

  • Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary’s Secret Santa: Each day, a different animal is featured on Noah’s Ark’s Facebook page, encouraging fans and supporters to make a donation to his wish list from Santa.

  • Charity: water’s 100 Wells For the Holidays: With the goal of raising $1 million for Ethiopia, Charity: water’s holiday campaign aims to fund 100 $10,000 wells.

  • Be The Match’s Give It Up To Help: Online bone marrow registry Be The Match is asking people to give up a few of life’s little indulgences, such as a couple fancy coffee beverages, to donate toward their life-saving campaign.

  • iHeartRadio’s A Very Special Christmas Radio: To mark the 25th anniversary of the “Very Special Christmas” album series, which has raised $109 million for the Special Olympics, iHeartRadio released a new station to support the same cause. You’ll hear songs from U2, Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Sheryl Crow and many others on the holiday station.
